IDC Launches Intra-Group Marketplace to Boost Trade Among Subsidiaries

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has unveiled the Intra-Group Marketplace, a digital platform aimed at enhancing trade and collaboration among its subsidiaries.

Launched under the theme “One Group, One Vision: Growth Through Synergies”, the platform allows IDC Group companies to list goods and services, request quotations, and complete transactions in real time. The initiative is designed to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and increase profitability across the Group.

The IDC Group comprises 36 of Zambia’s largest and most strategic enterprises, operating across 12 economic sectors, with a combined asset base exceeding K300 billion as of December 2024. Despite this scale, intra-group trade has historically been low, accounting for less than 5% of total transactions.

IDC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Cornwell Muleya, said the platform has the potential to transform intra-group trade. “Increasing intra-group transactions from just 5% to 25% could keep K10 billion circulating within our Group, strengthening financial resilience and driving sustainable growth,” he noted.

The guest of honour, Finance Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, represented by Mr Mordsen Chibuye Ruveve, Director of Finance for Local Government and Projects at the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the initiative’s wider economic significance.

“Prioritising internal sourcing allows our SOEs to mitigate external shocks, stabilise supply chains, and retain value within the Zambian economy. This approach strengthens both individual subsidiaries and the collective competitiveness of the IDC Group,” he said.

The launch was accompanied by an exhibition, where subsidiaries showcased their products and services, demonstrating the potential of the new marketplace to drive collaboration and growth within the IDC Group.
