ACCF Showcases Measurable Climate Impact Across Africa at Summit

The Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF), hosted by the African Development Bank, highlighted the impact of its work at a side event during the Second Africa Climate Summit, demonstrating how its investments are driving resilience and low-carbon development across the continent.

The event, themed “Showcasing ACCF Project Results: Advancing Climate-Resilient, Low-Carbon Development in Africa,” showcased how the Fund’s $40.64 million portfolio of 33 projects is delivering measurable outcomes.

Opening the discussion, Professor Anthony Nyong, the Bank’s Director of Climate Change and Green Growth, emphasised the Fund’s role in mobilising climate finance and strengthening community-led action. “Over eleven years, ACCF has reinforced resilience and mobilised climate finance across Africa. More donor support is urgently needed to meet the continent’s growing climate needs,” he said.

Project leaders shared success stories during a panel moderated by Rita Effah, ACCF Coordinator. The African Technology Policy Studies Network reported training 72 champions in 12 countries, publishing 12 policy briefs, and creating Africa’s first NDC Implementation Index.

Gender and youth inclusion featured strongly. Faith Gikunda of ICCASA-CEMIRIDE underscored the role of women with disabilities in building resilient communities, while Deborah Nzarubara of the DRC, known as the “mother of bees”, described how she scaled her childhood passion for beekeeping into a cooperative network of 1,200 members across 23 groups.

In Ethiopia, Farm Africa’s $1 million project has already reached 37,000 people in Afar and Oromia, with a focus on empowering women and youth. “Gender equality is a prerequisite to climate resilience,” said Programme Director Tom Cadogan.

Canada reaffirmed its commitment through Claude Landry, Head of Global Affairs Canada’s Pan-African and Regional Development Programme, stressing the importance of inclusive responses to climate impacts.

The session concluded with practical engagement, as Effah led an ACCF Clinic on 9 September, providing guidance on accessing funding and replicating successful models. The initiative reinforced the Fund’s emphasis on transparency, accessibility, and scaling innovation.
