Cheers to Bars: Zambian Breweries Celebrates 50 Years of Mosi and Zambia’s Bar Culture

Zambian Breweries joined hands with partners, bar owners, and local communities at Royal Park, Chilenje, to mark the culmination of its Cheers to Bars campaign, celebrating the country’s vibrant bar culture and the golden jubilee of Mosi Premium Lager – a beer that has united Zambians for 50 years.

The event, held in partnership with the Bars and Nightclubs Association of Zambia, brought together government officials, industry leaders, bar owners, patrons, and other stakeholders to recognise the pivotal role bars play as hubs for social connection, celebration, and memory-making.

“Bars are more than places to enjoy a drink,” said Zambian Breweries Country Director, Thais Cavinatto. “They are where friendships are forged, milestones are celebrated, culture is shared, and sport and entertainment are enjoyed. Today, we celebrate the custodians of our culture – our bars – and our golden beer, Mosi.”

The Government of the Republic of Zambia, through its National Arts Policy of 2023, acknowledges the immense potential of the creative industries to drive economic growth, foster social cohesion, and empower the youth. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts commended Zambian Breweries for its dedication to communities, responsible drinking, and youth development through sport and the arts.

“From promoting smart drinking, to supporting Zambia’s first women’s rugby team at the Olympics, and showcasing local talent through the Mosi Day of Thunder festival, Zambian Breweries continues to invest in the future of our young people,” the Ministry noted.

Mr Peter Mwale, President of the Bars and Nightclubs Association of Zambia, added: “Bars are at the heart of our communities. With partners like Zambian Breweries, we can continue to provide safe, welcoming spaces that support livelihoods and bring people together.”

Ms Cavinatto emphasised: “Zambian Breweries is proud to stand with the bars that have carried our brands, especially Mosi, for five decades. Together, we have built more than a business; we have built a culture of connection.”

Lusaka City Council’s Director of Public Health, Mr Victor Kagoli, also highlighted the importance of licensing and public health measures to maintain safe bar environments. “Partnerships with industry leaders like Zambian Breweries help us uphold standards while supporting economic growth and vibrant social spaces,” he said.

The Cheers to Bars event demonstrated the power of collaboration in strengthening Zambia’s bar culture. By working together, government, industry players, and bar owners can ensure the sector thrives, creating vibrant spaces where communities connect, celebrate, and share experiences.

“When bars thrive, communities thrive, and Zambia thrives,” Ms Cavinatto concluded. “Together, we will continue to create a future filled with more cheers – a future of shared success, resilience, and unity.”

The campaign, part of AB InBev’s global initiative, celebrates the contribution of bars worldwide while promoting responsible enjoyment and community connection.
