AfDB Strengthens Governance Skills of Project Managers in Tunisia

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has organised a training session in Tunis for project managers overseeing Bank-financed operations, aimed at enhancing integrity, transparency, and anti-corruption practices.

The training, conducted on 16 September 2025 by the Bank Group’s Integrity and Anti-Corruption Department (PIAC), coincided with a Proactive Integrity Review mission and was supported by Tunisia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning.

Participants were equipped with tools to anticipate and manage integrity-related risks, deepen their understanding of the AfDB’s Integrity Framework, and promote accountability in Bank-financed projects. The session covered topics including integrity risk assessment, due diligence of counterparties, whistleblowing procedures, complaint-handling, and investigative mechanisms.

Participants also received guidance on sanctionable practices such as fraud, corruption, collusion, coercion, and obstruction, and their legal, operational, and reputational implications.

Opening the session, Tarek Bouhlel, Director General for African Cooperation at Tunisia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning, highlighted the importance of such training in improving governance of AfDB projects in the country. Bernice Savy, AfDB Principal Economist in Tunisia, commended participants for their commitment to integrity and efficiency in project management.

Nadia Saadi-Matoussi, PIAC Principal Capacity Development and Training Officer, emphasised that the Bank ensures every mobilised resource contributes effectively to the economic and social development of its regional member countries.

The training also reaffirmed the AfDB’s zero-tolerance policy towards fraud and corruption, underlining its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to sustainable and inclusive results in Africa.
