Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Haimbe Arrives in New York for UN General Assembly

Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, has arrived in New York to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Hon. Haimbe is leading Zambia’s delegation to the high-level meetings, which also includes the Minister of Health, Hon. Elijah Muchima, alongside senior government officials.

The 80th UN General Assembly, scheduled from 22 to 29 September 2025, will convene under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.” The milestone session marks the UN’s 80th anniversary, offering world leaders an opportunity to recommit to multilateralism and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

Hon. Haimbe is expected to deliver Zambia’s statement during the High-level General Debate on Monday, 29 September 2025.

The Zambian delegation will also participate in a number of high-profile engagements, including the High-Level Meeting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the UN on 22 September, the Climate Summit on 24 September, and the inaugural Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Global Economy, also on 24 September.

The Biennial Summit, established under the 2024 Pact for the Future, will bring together global leaders to align international financial systems with sustainable development goals.

Beyond the formal proceedings, Zambia will host a Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment and Livelihoods (GEWEL) event under the theme “Delivering jobs for the poor at scale: Country Leadership and Partnership in Action.” In addition, the delegation will convene a private sector roundtable in New York to showcase Zambia’s investment opportunities.

The UN General Assembly remains the world’s most prominent forum for global diplomacy, with the 2025 session expected to underline the urgency of collective action in addressing challenges such as climate change, global inequality, and threats to peace.
