Zambia, Egypt Boost Bilateral Cooperation in Renewable Energy and Climate Resilience
Zambia and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in climate change action and sustainable development. This follows a courtesy call by the Ambassador of Egypt to Zambia, Her Excellency Mrs Mayada Essam, on the Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Honourable Mike Mposha, MP.
During her first official visit to the Ministry, Ambassador Essam and her delegation were warmly received, with discussions centred on climate resilience, renewable energy, and sustainable growth.
Both countries acknowledged their collaboration on global climate initiatives, including COP27, which Egypt hosted in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022. They pledged to continue working together to address climate-related challenges at both national and international levels.
Zambia also highlighted its interest in learning from Egypt’s renewable energy achievements, particularly the Benban Solar Park, one of the world’s largest solar energy projects. Insights from Egypt’s investments will be used to guide Zambia’s renewable energy programmes under the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), which emphasises green economic transformation and job creation.
In addition, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as Zambia’s Vision 2030 and the Paris Agreement. The partnership aims to ensure tangible progress in sustainable development and in tackling the global climate crisis.
Speaking during the meeting, Minister Mposha stressed the significance of the bilateral engagement. “We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Egypt and ensuring that our partnership continues to drive real, tangible progress in the fight against climate change and in the pursuit of sustainable development. Our National Vision 2030 aspires for Zambia to become a prosperous middle-income nation,” he said.
