Zambia Energy Minister Launches Media Campaign for C&I Energy + Storage Summit

Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, has officially launched the media campaign for the forthcoming C&I Energy + Storage Summit Zambia, calling it a pivotal step in raising national awareness on the role of energy in driving the country’s economic transformation.

The campaign launch, held at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka on Friday, 22 August, was officiated on the Minister’s behalf by Senior Energy Officer Palanga Ngoma. The high-level summit will take place on 27–28 August 2025 and will convene government leaders, private sector stakeholders, financiers, development partners, and the media to deliberate on energy consumption and production in Zambia’s commercial and industrial sectors.

Highlighting the global and local energy transition, Mr Chikote stressed that Zambia’s response must be bold, inclusive, and rooted in partnerships. He noted that the conference would focus on renewable energy integration, energy efficiency, financing mechanisms, and policy alignment, with the goal of delivering practical solutions that ensure affordable and reliable energy for industries.

The Minister further outlined ongoing reforms, including a review of the Electricity Act and Energy Regulation Act to align them with emerging realities such as renewable energy and storage. Measures also include strengthening the Energy Regulation Board, streamlining licensing and tariff-setting processes, and promoting public-private partnerships to fast-track investment in modern energy infrastructure.

He urged the media to amplify key messages from the summit, recognising their role in shaping public dialogue.

Buterla Investment Holdings Limited Chief Executive Officer, Happy Chisenga Mbulo, expressed pride in serving as the local partner for the event. He introduced co-organiser VUKA Group, a South African leader in convening high-level industry forums across the continent.

Mr Mbulo described the summit as a timely response to Zambia’s rising demand for sustainable energy solutions and a vital platform for knowledge exchange, partnerships, and investment.

Stanbic Bank, one of the sponsors, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Zambia’s energy agenda. The bank pledged to leverage its financial expertise and regional presence to back renewable energy, infrastructure, and industrial projects in line with national development priorities.

Energy expert Dr Johnston Chikwanda, delivering a vote of thanks, commended the Ministry of Energy for its leadership in guiding Zambia’s energy transition. He said the summit would address the immediate energy needs of the commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors while laying the foundation for a resilient, diversified, and sustainable energy future.

Dr Chikwanda also extended gratitude to stakeholders, advisory board members, and the media for their contributions in ensuring that the summit becomes a transformative platform that leads to tangible action, investment, and partnerships.
