Financial Insight Hosts First-Ever Mining Media Workshop to Boost Industry Reporting in Zambia
Financial Insight, a leading media management organisation, has launched its inaugural Mining Deep Dive Workshop aimed at strengthening journalistic understanding of Zambia’s vital mining industry.
Held on 24 July 2025 at the Royal Gibson Hotel in Kitwe, the event brought together senior journalists and leading experts from the financial, legal, and engineering sectors for an immersive knowledge-sharing experience.
The workshop is the first under Financial Insight’s new FiMedia Workshops initiative, a bold step designed to bridge the gap between media professionals and technical stakeholders in Zambia’s mining ecosystem.
“Accurate reporting on the mining sector is fundamental to public accountability,” said Mwelwa Chibesakunda, Founder and CEO of Financial Insight. “We’re moving beyond press releases to foster genuine dialogue between journalists and the architects of the industry. This is about raising the bar for mining and financial journalism in Zambia.”
The workshop provided a direct, unfiltered platform for journalists to explore real-world industry challenges and gain insights into best practices for investigative and financial reporting. The informal, conversational format encouraged open engagement and clarity on key issues affecting the sector.
Luyanga Mufungulwa, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at FNB Zambia, spoke on the importance of understanding mining finance. “Journalists need to understand how the various stages of mining are financed. This knowledge helps them identify funding bottlenecks and do meaningful investigative work around mining activities and Zambia’s broader economic goals.”
Violet Mambwe, Senior Audit Associate at HLB Zambia, the event’s lead sponsor, emphasized the need for financial literacy among journalists. “Mining is governed by a complex regulatory framework. At HLB, we are committed to helping journalists interpret financial data accurately and bridge the gap in understanding economic information.”
The successful launch of the Mining Deep Dive Workshop reaffirms Financial Insight’s mission to provide meaningful platforms for dialogue, data, and development. By equipping media professionals with direct access to industry expertise, the company continues to elevate the standards of corporate and economic intelligence in Zambia.
