MultiChoice Tops Media Sentiment Rankings, Outshines Competitors with Positive Public Perception
MultiChoice has emerged as the most positively perceived entertainment platform in South Africa, outperforming major competitors including Netflix, SABC, and eMedia, according to new data released by PressPulse, a leading online media-sentiment tracking platform.
The sentiment analysis conducted by PressPulse revealed that MultiChoice achieved a standout positive sentiment score of 77.2, significantly ahead of global streaming giant Netflix, which registered a negative score of -4.95. This ranking cements MultiChoice’s status as the top performer in terms of public perception and media coverage within South Africa’s competitive entertainment landscape.
PressPulse’s platform leverages advanced artificial intelligence (AI), including natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning algorithms, to analyze and classify sentiments in news coverage. The system tracks how both journalists and audiences respond to companies in real time, providing a robust indication of brand reputation.
The rankings are heavily influenced by coverage from high-impact business and tech publications, whose credibility and reach play a crucial role in shaping sentiment trends. MultiChoice’s leadership in this space is a reflection of not only its media strategy but also its broader brand positioning and consumer trust.
Litlhare Moteetee, Head of Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice, welcomed the results, stating: “This recognition is a powerful affirmation of our commitment to being Africa’s most loved storyteller. It celebrates the authentic African voices behind our work and reinforces our passion for delivering content that truly resonates with our audiences.”
Moteetee further highlighted the company’s focus on identity-driven storytelling: “As audiences continue to choose stories that reflect their identity and aspirations, we’re proud to lead the way in shaping a narrative that’s unapologetically African and globally impactful.”
The results come as MultiChoice continues to emphasize local content, accessible platforms, and digital transformation—factors that have played a pivotal role in maintaining audience engagement and brand loyalty. Over the past year, sentiment scores for the company have steadily improved, reflecting enhanced consumer trust and a strong media presence.
MultiChoice’s success in the sentiment rankings is not only a testament to its communication efforts but also to the resilience of its business model. The company’s continued cost-saving measures and focus on innovation are helping it navigate a fast-evolving entertainment landscape while deepening its connection with African audiences.
