U.S. Ambassador Gonzales Pays Tribute to Late President Lungu
The United States Ambassador to Zambia, Michael C. Gonzales, has expressed his heartfelt condolences following the death of Zambia’s sixth Republican President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
In an official statement, Ambassador Gonzales conveyed his sympathies to the Lungu family and the people of Zambia, reflecting on the time he spent with the former head of state.
“It is with a heavy heart that I convey my deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the Zambian people,” the Ambassador stated. “Over the years, I had the pleasure of engaging regularly with President Lungu. We shared long discussions about Zambia’s future—its potential, its challenges, and the role the United States could play in supporting its prosperity.”
Ambassador Gonzales noted that the condolences extended not only from himself but also from the American people, the U.S. Government, and the entire U.S. Embassy team in Zambia.
He concluded with a message of comfort: “May you find solace in President Lungu’s legacy and strength in the support of those around you.”
