FQM Trident Honours Workers and Celebrates Safety Milestone on Labour Day
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) Trident celebrated this year’s Labour Day with resounding tributes to its employees, spotlighting achievements in safety, innovation, and long-term service that underline the company’s commitment to excellence and national development.
Held at FQM Trident in Kalumbila District, the 2025 Labour Day Awards event brought together staff, union representatives, and management to honour the company’s workforce for its resilience and exceptional performance. The celebration was marked by a significant safety milestone: zero fatalities recorded since December 2023.
Speaking on behalf of the mine workers’ unions, Ted Mwasha praised FQM’s dedication to workplace safety and employee well-being. “Today is not just about honouring excellence but also about reaffirming our commitment to creating a safe and supportive workplace,” Mwasha said.
A total of 84 employees were recognised across categories such as Resilience, Leadership, Innovation, and Safety Consciousness. In addition to performance awards, long-serving staff were honoured for their 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of dedicated service.
FQM Trident Human Resource Manager, Mark Silimi, said the awards reflect the company’s culture of high standards and performance. “Recognition like this strengthens our culture of excellence and sets the bar for the future,” he said, noting that employee dedication is key to the mine’s success.
General Manager Scott Whitehead emphasized FQM’s long-term investment in human capital, citing the company’s Graduate Development Programmes and local training initiatives aimed at nurturing the next generation of Zambian mining professionals.
“Today is a testament to the commitment we share to fostering a skilled and safe workforce,” Whitehead stated, adding that FQM’s efforts support broader national objectives of inclusive economic growth and workforce development.
