Zambia Showcases Innovation and Investment Potential at Osaka 2025 World Expo

Zambia is leveraging its presence at the ongoing Osaka 2025 World Expo to highlight its commitment to innovation, economic growth, and global partnerships. Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lillian Bwalya, reaffirmed the country’s dedication to promoting Zambia as a prime investment and tourism destination.

Speaking at the global event, Mrs. Bwalya emphasized that the Expo provides a critical platform for Zambia to tap into emerging technologies and global expertise across various sectors, including tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, and health.

“The Expo offers an invaluable opportunity for Zambia to explore transformative technologies and build strategic alliances,” she said, encouraging increased participation from the Zambian private sector.

She noted that the Expo’s broad thematic focus—covering health, women’s empowerment, tourism, technology, and investment—aligns with Zambia’s development agenda.

Mrs. Bwalya highlighted the government’s proactive efforts to enhance tourism through strategic policy and infrastructure support. These include visa waivers for Japanese nationals, visa-on-arrival for over 160 countries, and ongoing improvements to site accessibility. Key initiatives such as the ‘Visit Zambia’ and ‘Zambia KuChalo’ campaigns, the Domestic Tourism Strategy, and the Tourism Investment Guide are driving visibility and investor confidence in the sector.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Tobias Mulimbika, echoed the significance of the country’s participation at the six-month Expo, held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

“This Expo is a global platform for dialogue, innovation, and partnership. We are showcasing Zambia’s investment potential through exhibits and materials aligned with the Expo’s three sub-themes: Saving Lives, Empowering Lives, and Connecting Lives,” Dr. Mulimbika said.

He further announced that Zambia’s National Day at the Expo will be celebrated on 7th July 2025, and the Zambian Embassy—together with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)—will host an Investment Forum to spotlight key opportunities in Zambia’s growing economy.
