Zambia, Brazil Strengthen Tourism Ties in High-Level Bilateral Talks

Zambia and Brazil have held strategic bilateral talks aimed at unlocking new opportunities in the tourism sector. The high-level meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2nd UN Tourism Summit at the Radisson Blu Mosi-oa-Tunya in Livingstone, drawing global attention to Zambia’s growing commitment to tourism development.

The Zambian delegation met with Mr. Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral, Brazil’s National Secretary for Infrastructure, Credit and Investment in Tourism. Discussions focused on fostering deeper collaboration in areas such as sustainable tourism, infrastructure development, and enhanced air connectivity.

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the shared ambition to improve travel routes between the two countries. The possibility of introducing direct flights between Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo and regional hubs within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was tabled as a priority.

Mr. Sobral emphasized Brazil’s dedication to South-South cooperation and expressed enthusiasm for establishing joint ventures, capacity-building initiatives, and cultural exchange programs with Zambia.

Zambia views this partnership as an opportunity to learn from Brazil’s success in tourism, while further positioning itself as Africa’s leading eco and heritage tourism destination. This engagement also sets the stage for Zambia’s participation in the 3rd UN Tourism Summit, which Brazil is set to host in 2026.
