Zambia to Host Landmark Digital Trade Forum to Accelerate AfCFTA Implementation

The Government of the Republic of Zambia, in partnership with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), will host the highly anticipated Digital Trade Forum from May 6th to 10th, 2025, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) in Lusaka.

Themed “Boosting Digital Trade to Accelerate AfCFTA Implementation,” the forum aims to fast-track Zambia’s digital transformation while enhancing regional trade integration. It is expected to attract Heads of State from over eight African countries, as well as stakeholders in ICT, e-commerce, finance, telecommunications, and digital innovation.

Speaking ahead of the forum during a stakeholders’ breakfast meeting, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, MP, through a speech read by Permanent Secretary for Investment and Industrialization Mr. Crusivia Hichikumba, emphasized the strategic importance of hosting the forum.

He noted that the event reflects Zambia’s growing commitment to implementing the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade, launched in February 2024.

“This forum marks a major milestone in harmonizing digital regulations, promoting e-commerce, and enabling African entrepreneurs to trade seamlessly across borders,” said Hon. Mulenga.

By leveraging digital trade, Zambia aims to expand market access, improve supply chain efficiency, drive innovation, and create jobs—particularly for young people and startups. The forum will also explore strategic areas such as digital infrastructure, financial technology, cybersecurity, and e-government solutions.

Officials say the forum represents a bold step toward integrating Zambia into the continental digital economy while positioning it as a hub for digital innovation in Africa.
