British Gov’t Commends Zambia’s Education Reforms, Pledges Continued Support

The British government has reaffirmed its commitment to Zambia’s education sector, hailing the country’s progress in improving access to quality learning.

UK High Commissioner to Zambia, Her Excellency Rebecca Terzeon, described education as a crucial pillar for national development when she paid a courtesy call on Minister of Education, Honourable Douglas Syakalima in Lusaka.

“Better-educated countries are more prosperous, which benefits both their citizens and international trade partners,” she said, commending Zambia’s strides under the Education for All policy and the rollout of a new school curriculum.

Ms. Terzeon highlighted the UK’s Girls’ Education Programme, which has impacted over 70,000 children, and the Keeping Girls in School (KGS) initiative, providing grants to more than 30,000 schoolgirls to support secondary education access.

In response, Hon. Syakalima described Zambia-UK educational ties as crucial in empowering communities. He noted that free education and the School Feeding Programme have significantly reduced absenteeism, with 106 districts set to benefit this year.

The British envoy reaffirmed her government’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with Zambia in ensuring inclusive, quality education for all.
