KCM Partners with ZAMM-IMPORTS for Road Rehabilitation in Chililabombwe and Chingola
Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has entered into a strategic partnership with ZAMM-IMPORTS to provide construction materials for a significant road rehabilitation project in the districts of Chililabombwe and Chingola. The collaboration aims to improve critical road infrastructure under KCM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
KCM will supply ZAMM-IMPORTS with sand and crushed stones at a minimal cost over the next two years, ensuring that the company can meet material requirements for a 20-kilometre stretch of road rehabilitation in the two districts.
During the signing ceremony in Chililabombwe, ZAMM-IMPORTS Operations Manager Dennis Mulawisha expressed readiness to set up a crushing plant at Konkola Mine to start procuring the necessary materials for the road works.
“Now that we have signed the contract, we will commence the 20km road construction in Chingola and Chililabombwe under our CSR programme at a lower cost thanks to the cheaper materials provided by KCM. Our crushing plant will be set up at No.1 Shaft in Chililabombwe, enabling easier access to the materials,” said Mulawisha.
KCM’s CSR Manager, Brian Siatubi, welcomed the partnership, noting that the project aligns with KCM’s CSR goals of contributing positively to community infrastructure development.
“Good roads are vital as they improve accessibility to essential services, promote economic activity, enhance safety, and elevate the overall quality of life for communities. This collaboration will help achieve that,” Siatubi remarked.
The road rehabilitation project includes a phased plan by KCM to upgrade four kilometres of selected roads in Chingola, further emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable community development.
