Mission 300: Powering Africa’s Future Through Universal Energy Access
Africa stands on the brink of transformation as the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the World Bank Group, alongside key partners, launch Mission 300, a groundbreaking initiative to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
This initiative addresses the stark reality faced by nearly 600 million Africans living without reliable electricity. Beyond powering homes, Mission 300 seeks to uplift entire communities by unlocking access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and gender equality.
The Africa Energy Summit, set for January 27-28 in Dar es Salaam, will bring together over 25 African Heads of State, international organizations, energy experts, and private sector leaders.
The summit will drive critical outcomes, including the adoption of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration and 12 country energy compacts, aimed at accelerating energy access through bold reforms, partnerships, and investments.
Mission 300 emphasizes clean energy solutions, prioritizing renewable sources such as mini-grids and solar home systems to serve remote and underserved areas. With over 60% of the world’s best solar potential located in Africa, the continent is uniquely poised to lead a low-carbon energy revolution.
AfDB Vice President Kevin Kariuki highlighted the urgency of action: “This is a defining moment for Africa. Mission 300 is not just about electrification—it’s about transforming lives, reducing poverty, and ensuring a sustainable future. Together, we can light up Africa and make history.”
