KCM and Chingola Round Table No.7 Donate Medical Equipment Worth K250,000 to Nchanga North Hospital

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), in collaboration with the Chingola Round Table No.7, has made a significant contribution to healthcare in Chingola district by donating an oxygen concentrator and ultrasound equipment valued at K250,000 to Nchanga North Hospital.

The state-of-the-art medical equipment aims to enhance the hospital’s diagnostic and respiratory support capabilities, ultimately improving healthcare service delivery for the community.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Chingola District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi expressed gratitude for the donation and emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure long-term benefits.

“We are donating to the community, and we must take care of the equipment. We cannot manage to serve the people effectively without the support of stakeholders, and this donation by KCM and Chingola Round Table No.7 gives much hope that the hospital will gradually be equipped with modern equipment to efficiently attend to patients,” Mr. Chimupi stated.

He highlighted that Nchanga North Hospital not only serves Chingola but also provides healthcare services to surrounding districts, including Kalulushi, Chililabombwe, and Chambishi. The donation is expected to reduce patient waiting times and improve health outcomes.

KCM Chief Operating Officer Malcolm Mewett reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting community initiatives through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.

“This donation ensures that Nchanga North Hospital is equipped with modern tools to improve healthcare outcomes. Additionally, we are committed to ensuring that healthcare personnel are adequately trained to use this equipment. Ultimately, it’s about saving lives,” Mr. Mewett said.

Representatives from both KCM and the Chingola Round Table emphasized their shared dedication to community welfare, underscoring the importance of partnerships in addressing healthcare challenges.

The donation is set to benefit over 316,000 residents from various districts, marking a significant step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving the quality of life for local communities.

Konkola Copper Mines Plc, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Limited, is one of Zambia’s largest copper producers. KCM operates mining and processing facilities in Chingola, Chililabombwe, Kitwe, and Nampundwe.

With Vedanta’s investment pledge exceeding $1 billion, KCM plans to unlock key projects such as the Konkola Deep Mining Project (KDMP) in Chililabombwe and increase copper production to 300,000 tonnes per year by 2030.
