Emirates Set to Become the World’s First Autism Certified Airline™
Emirates has taken a groundbreaking step in aviation by announcing its mission to become the world’s first Autism Certified Airline™. In collaboration with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), Emirates will implement a comprehensive autism and sensory-awareness training program for over 30,000 cabin crew and ground staff.
This certification, to be awarded later in 2025, will make Emirates a leader in accessible travel for passengers with autism and sensory sensitivities.
This initiative reflects Emirates’ commitment to improving travel experiences for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. A survey conducted by AutismTravel.com revealed that 94% of families would take more vacations if accessible services were available.
In response, Emirates is enhancing both ground and inflight services to create a more inclusive journey.
The Autism Certified Airline™ designation is the result of extensive research, including feedback from over 14,000 people with autism, sensory sensitivities, and their caregivers, along with insights from industry professionals and healthcare experts.
Emirates has also introduced “sensory guides,” digital tools to help passengers plan their journey by assessing sensory factors like sound, lighting, and smells across different environments.
Additionally, Emirates will offer sensory fidget toys and other neurodiverse products onboard to aid focus and reduce stress for passengers. By 2025, the airline plans to roll out even more standards and services to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for neurodiverse customers.
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming the most accessible destination globally, with Emirates and Dubai Airports collaborating to achieve milestones like the Certified Autism Center™ Designation for all Dubai Check-In facilities.
