Ministry Condemns Derogatory Remarks by Simon Chitambala on Zambian Artists

The Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts has expressed grave concern over recent derogatory remarks made by social media personality Simon Chitambala, popularly known as Simon Mwewa Lane, regarding Zambian artists.

The comments, shared on his Facebook page, come in the wake of a tragic accident involving renowned artist Wesley Chibambo, known as Dandy Crazy, which claimed multiple lives.

In a press statement issued on January 1, 2025, Principal Public Relations Officer Nchimunya Bobby Ng’andu described the remarks as “demeaning” and contrary to the nation’s values.

The Ministry emphasized the pivotal role of the arts in Zambia’s socio-economic development and called for constructive engagement over public criticism.

Highlighting recent achievements, the Ministry celebrated five Zambian artists honored at the African Music Awards (AMA) Academy. These accolades, they noted, showcase the resilience and talent of Zambian creatives.

The Ministry has urged Mr. Chitambala to reflect on his comments and issue an apology to the arts sector, reaffirming their commitment to supporting and promoting the welfare of Zambian artists.

“Influencers and opinion leaders must use their platforms to inspire unity and growth within the creative industry,” the statement concluded.
