President Hichilema Vows Zero Tolerance for Corruption in Healthcare Sector
President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to rooting out corruption following the release of preliminary findings from a forensic audit on the Ministry of Health, specifically targeting the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).
The audit, covering January 2023 to December 2024, revealed systemic malpractice by individuals profiting from medical supplies meant for public benefit.
President Hichilema described the findings as “a significant milestone” in the government’s fight against corruption and a step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in Zambia’s healthcare system.
The President acknowledged the support of international cooperating partners in uncovering these malpractices. “We won’t tolerate corruption in our healthcare system,” he stated, emphasizing plans for similar audits across other key sectors to ensure institutions prioritize public service over personal gain.
He called on all citizens to join hands in creating a corruption-free Zambia, pledging to fight malpractice in all its forms and across all timelines—past, present, and future.
President Hichilema concluded with a rallying call for unity and collective responsibility, stressing that a transparent healthcare system is fundamental to the nation’s progress.
