President Hichilema Launches Insightful Military Strategy Book at Lusaka’s DSCSC
President Hakainde Hichilema on 19th November presided over the launch of The Art of War and Peace, a thought-provoking book by renowned authors Greg Mills and Dr. David Kilcullen.
The event was held at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), an institution central to Zambia’s military education and strategy development.
In his keynote address, President Hichilema highlighted the symbolic significance of the venue, describing it as a historic hub for Southern Africa’s liberation movements.
He noted that icons like former South African President Thabo Mbeki had once operated from the site during the region’s struggle for independence.
The President commended the book for its critical analysis of traditional approaches to war and peace, emphasizing its relevance in modern times. The Art of War and Peace advocates for integrating sustainable peace efforts with military strategy, an approach the President said was essential in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous global environment.
“Africa must build the capacity to address its security challenges by investing in institutions like the Defence Services Command and Staff College,” President Hichilema stressed.
He reiterated the importance of operationalizing the National Defence University, established by a statutory instrument in 2021, as a key step toward strengthening Zambia’s strategic and operational capabilities.
The launch attracted military officials, scholars, and policymakers, all of whom lauded the book’s insights as invaluable to shaping contemporary military thought and policy.
