Zambia to Advocate for Regional Peace at Extraordinary SADC Summit in Zimbabwe

Zambia’s President, Hakainde Hichilema, will be represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, at the Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government in Harare, Zimbabwe, on 20th November 2024.

The Summit will focus on reviewing the security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where armed groups have resurged, threatening peace and stability.

Delegates will also receive updates on the SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC), which was deployed in December 2023 to restore peace in the conflict-affected region.

Preceding the Summit will be sessions of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation; the Council of Ministers; and the Organ Troika Summit Plus Troop Contributing Countries and the DRC.

As the outgoing Chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, Zambia remains committed to efforts promoting peace in Eastern DRC.

“Regional peace and stability are key to unlocking intra-regional trade and investment,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement.

Hon. Haimbe is expected to return to Zambia upon completing his engagements in Zimbabwe.
