Zambia and Russia Strengthen Bilateral Relations, Commemorate 60 Years of Diplomatic Ties
Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, S.C, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, welcomed His Excellency Mr. Azim Yarakhmedov, the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Zambia, to Charter House to discuss enhanced cooperation and mutual interests.
The meeting marked Zambia’s recent 60th Independence Anniversary and 60 years of Zambia-Russia diplomatic relations. Minister Haimbe expressed gratitude for Russia’s longstanding support across sectors such as education, defense, agriculture, and health, emphasizing Zambia’s commitment to further strengthening these ties.
The Russian Ambassador shared that his government had increased scholarships for Zambian students to study in Russia, supporting educational exchange and expertise development.
He also highlighted the deployment of Russian medical specialists working alongside Zambian doctors at the University Teaching Hospital, an initiative aimed at fostering knowledge transfer and improving healthcare services.
Zambia and Russia continue to build upon their six-decade partnership, underscoring a mutual dedication to cooperative growth and shared development goals.
