MCTI Leads Tree Planting Initiative to Honor Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary
In an impactful move to combat climate change and celebrate Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry (MCTI) spearheaded a tree-planting exercise at Mumana Primary School in Kaunda Square, Lusaka.
Recognizing the pressing need for environmental stewardship, the Ministry emphasized that tree planting should be a priority for all Zambians.
The Permanent Secretary for Trade and Commerce, Mrs. Lillian Bwalya, delivered a message through Mrs. Nalituba Mwale, Director of Human Resources and Administration, underscoring the initiative’s significance.
“This exercise solidifies our commitment to honoring Zambia’s heritage and investing in its future,” she said. “As we celebrate our diamond jubilee, engaging in such activities fosters the beautification of public spaces and strengthens our commitment to sustainable development.”
The tree planting initiative, which included participation from MCTI’s Statutory Bodies, symbolized a communal effort to promote environmental awareness. Mrs. Bwalya highlighted the multifaceted benefits of trees, noting their role in improving air quality by filtering pollutants, thus enhancing the well-being of communities.
Mrs. Bwalya expressed gratitude to all participants, particularly the teachers, learners, local authorities, and Statutory Bodies that contributed to the day’s success. “Together, we honor our heritage and embrace a greener future,” she concluded.
