Zambian Breweries Celebrates Zambia’s 60th Independence Day with Record-Breaking Attempt in Unity and Heritage

On the 60th anniversary of Zambia’s independence, Zambian Breweries brought together thousands of citizens to celebrate under its Mosi Ku Chalo (Mosi to the World) campaign. The brewing giant orchestrated an attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the most people opening bottles simultaneously.

Though the record set by Bavaria, a subsidiary of AB InBev in Colombia, remains unbroken with 4,339 bottles, Zambian Breweries set an impressive benchmark with 3,990 bottles opened in unison.

The event, held at R&G Arena, was a vibrant celebration of Zambian culture, with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator Lena Kuhlmann acknowledging the excitement and unity displayed: “Today, you and Mosi Premium Lager attempted an official Guinness World Records title for the most people opening bottles simultaneously… The former record was 4,339, and today, 3,990 people participated. Though the record was not beaten today, what I witnessed was a celebration filled with happiness together with Mosi Premium Lager celebrating 60 years of Zambian independence.”

Zambian Breweries’ Country Director, Thais Cavinatto, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the day’s deeper significance: “Our iconic Mosi is about bringing people together… Mosi is more than just a beer; it is a symbol of who we are – proud, united, and always reaching for greatness. This day was about Zambia celebrating what it means to be truly Zambian – the people, the heart, and the culture.”

A mix of Zambia’s most celebrated artists graced the event, amplifying the festive spirit with electrifying performances by stars such as Chef 187, Bobby East, Vinchenzo, and others, keeping the audience energized and proud. The gathering was a powerful display of Zambia’s cultural pride and spirit, aligning with the Mosi brand’s mission to bring “Mosi to the World.”

The event also underscored Zambian Breweries’ commitment to local talent and culture, with Mosi Premium Lager having received international accolades, including its 5th Gold Quality Award from Monde Selection in 2023. With this event, Zambian Breweries demonstrated its dedication to celebrating the nation’s heritage and unity while inspiring pride in Mosi’s enduring legacy.

Reflecting on the memorable experience, Ms. Cavinatto concluded, “Zambian Breweries will continue to champion Zambia’s story, supporting initiatives that bring people together and shine a spotlight on the country’s heritage and talents.”
