Ambassador Tiffany Sadler Commends Zambia’s Efforts in Tackling Food Insecurity Amidst Drought

Ambassador Tiffany Sadler, the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Head of Africa Directorate Central and Southern, has applauded Zambia’s swift action in addressing food insecurity due to ongoing drought challenges.

Recognizing the toll of extreme weather conditions, Ambassador Sadler expressed her solidarity with Zambia and commended the country’s initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of its most vulnerable citizens.

During her field visit to Chilanga District, Ambassador Sadler was joined by Ms. Angela Kawandami, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, and Mr. Sam Waldock, the Acting British High Commissioner to Zambia.

Together, they engaged with beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) programs, learning about the impact of these initiatives in reducing poverty and improving the quality of life for the vulnerable.

Ambassador Sadler expressed confidence in Zambia’s commitment to supporting its people through the SCT and ECT programs. “Zambia’s efforts are making a substantial difference in the lives of those hit hardest by food shortages, and I encourage beneficiaries to remain resilient,” she stated.

Earlier in the day, Ambassador Sadler and Ms. Kawandami paid a courtesy call to Chilanga District Commissioner, Mr. David Sheleni. During the visit, they acknowledged the programs’ contributions to easing food insecurity and alleviating poverty nationwide.

Permanent Secretary Kawandami emphasized that UK support has been “life-saving,” helping to mitigate the drought’s impact and improve socio-economic conditions for over 1.3 million households.

She expressed gratitude for the UK’s financial and technical assistance, highlighting how it has empowered Zambia to tackle these socio-economic challenges.
