Zambia’s Ambassador to Italy Presents Credentials to President of Greece
Zambia’s Ambassador to Italy, H.E. Mrs. Patricia Chisanga Kondolo, presented her credentials to Her Excellency Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, President of the Hellenic Republic, during a formal ceremony held in Athens.
As a non-resident ambassador, Ambassador Kondolo’s accreditation marks a significant step towards strengthening diplomatic ties between Zambia and Greece.
In her address to the newly accredited ambassadors, President Sakellaropoulou welcomed the envoys, assuring them of Greece’s support during their tenures. She emphasized Greece’s commitment to regional stability and peaceful dispute resolution in South East Europe and the Mediterranean, and expressed concern over global challenges including extremism, immigration, and climate change.
Ambassador Kondolo conveyed warm greetings from President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia and expressed hopes for the enhancement of relations between Zambia and Greece.
She congratulated Greece on its recent election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 period and affirmed Zambia’s support for Greece’s tenure, highlighting the shared commitment to diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution.
In her remarks, Ambassador Kondolo also advocated for a permanent seat for Africa on the UN Security Council, aligning Zambia with ongoing efforts to reform global governance.
She further thanked Greece for the European Union’s renewed budget support to Zambia, noting that the assistance would help address the economic and social challenges brought about by drought, food insecurity, and energy shortages.
During her visit, Ambassador Kondolo officially opened the new office of the Honorary Consul of Zambia in Greece, Ms. Rose Chizi. She praised Ms. Chizi for her role in advancing Zambia’s interests and called for continued efforts to foster trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
The Ambassador also met with officials from the Greece Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, and the Hellenic African Chamber of Commerce, engaging with the private sector to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation.
