President Hichilema Engages Chiefs at Umutomolo Ceremony, Commends Provinces for Maize Production
President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to collaborating with traditional leaders to foster national development.
Speaking during his meeting with chiefs attending the 2024 Umutomolo Traditional Ceremony of the Namwanga people in Nakonde District, President Hichilema praised Muchinga and Northern Provinces for their increased maize production, despite facing drought that has impacted the country’s food security.
The President emphasized that the government is dedicated to working with all Zambians, including traditional leaders, to achieve prosperity.
He lauded the resilience of farmers in these regions who managed to produce significant maize yields amid challenging conditions.
“I commend the two Provinces for their increased production, especially in the face of drought during the last farming season,” said President Hichilema.
He also thanked traditional leaders for maintaining peace and unity, urging them to continue discouraging conflict which can lead to division.
Chief Katyetye of the Tambo people in Isoka District expressed gratitude to the government for rehabilitating the Nakonde-Chinsali road, which has significantly improved the region’s connectivity.
However, he urged the government to ensure timely delivery of inputs for the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) to sustain agricultural productivity.
Chief Nkambo of Masaiti, Chairperson of the House of Chiefs, commended President Hichilema for supporting traditional ceremonies, noting that his presence at such events is a testament to his commitment to peace and unity in the country.
