ZEHEST Calls for Urgent Action on Environmental Laws and Waste Management Ahead of Rainy Season
As the rainy season approaches, the Zambian Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (ZEHEST) is urging the government to implement effective environmental laws and impose stricter penalties on individuals engaged in indiscriminate garbage disposal.
The organization emphasizes the critical need for a collective transformation in citizens’ attitudes toward waste management to mitigate health risks associated with poor waste practices.
“The impending rainy season poses a significant risk of diseases if we fail to address the issue of indiscriminate garbage disposal,” stated Mr. Clarence Moonde Muzyamba, Founder and Visionary Leader of ZEHEST.
He highlighted the government’s responsibility to enforce existing environmental laws effectively and called upon citizens to embrace a proactive mindset regarding waste management.
ZEHEST has outlined key demands aimed at improving environmental conditions in Zambia. First, the organization urges the government to rigorously enforce environmental laws and ensure that offenders are held accountable.
Additionally, ZEHEST advocates for increased penalties for those guilty of improper garbage disposal, viewing this as a necessary deterrent against such actions.
Moreover, ZEHEST recommends launching comprehensive public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the importance of proper waste management and its benefits for a clean environment.
The organization emphasizes the need for citizens to take ownership of their environment and understand the impact of their waste disposal habits on public health.
“By working together and changing our mindset, we can create a cleaner, healthier environment for all Zambians,” concluded Mr. Muzyamba. He called on the community to take pride in their surroundings and strive for a sustainable future.
