China’s Defense Technologies Shines at Africa’s Largest Airshow
The 2024 Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (AAD), the continent’s premier airshow, has commenced at an air force base near Pretoria, showcasing cutting-edge defense technologies from China that attracted global delegations.
This year marks the twelfth edition of the AAD, which began on Wednesday and will open to the public on Saturday. Chinese enterprises displayed a range of advanced military technologies, including armored assault vehicles, fire strike systems, air defense solutions, intelligent ammunition, and unmanned systems.
South African Defense Minister Angie Motshekga toured the Chinese exhibition area on the opening day, highlighting the significance of modern defense technologies.
“War and defense have become highly technical and scientific. To remain relevant, we must move quickly on science and technology,” she remarked.
The AAD, held biennially, serves as a platform for defense and aerospace industries to network, innovate, and showcase their capabilities. This year’s event is expected to facilitate discussions on security and defense collaboration across the African continent and beyond.
As the airshow progresses, it aims to bolster partnerships and enhance technological exchanges within the defense sector, marking a pivotal moment for military innovation in Africa.
