ZICTA Mid-Year Report Highlights Strong ICT Sector Growth in 2024
The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has released its 2024 Mid-Year Market Report, showcasing continued growth in the country’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
Active mobile subscriptions rose by 8.9%, reaching 21.9 million, while internet subscriptions grew by 10.2% to 12.6 million. Mobile money services also experienced a notable boost, with transaction volumes increasing by 44% to 1.4 billion.
Infrastructure investments, such as the construction of new telecom towers and expansion of 5G networks, are driving this growth. The ICT sector generated ZMW 2.5 billion in revenue, with data services accounting for 46.3% of the total.
Looking ahead, ZICTA anticipates continued growth despite challenges such as electricity load shedding and currency fluctuations. Regulatory developments, including a national postcode system and wholesale access arrangements, are also expected in late 2024.
Hanford Chaaba, ZICTA’s Manager of Corporate Communications, stated, “ZICTA remains committed to fostering a robust, inclusive digital economy for Zambia.”
