ZCSA Destroys Non-Compliant Peanut Butter Worth K117,420 to Safeguard Consumers

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has destroyed non-compliant peanut butter valued at K117,420. 

According to a statement issued by Onishias Maamba, the Public Relations Officer for ZCSA, the peanut butter failed to meet the Zambian Standard (ZS) 723: Peanut Butter – Specification, posing a risk to consumers.

This action aligns with the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017, aimed at protecting consumers. The disposal exercise took place in Chilanga District following a product recall notice issued to selected suppliers in Lusaka. ZCSA’s assessments identified the non-compliant batches, leading to their destruction.

“Peanut Butter is one of the food products covered by Compulsory Standards,” Maamba stated. “We urge manufacturers and importers to comply with these standards to protect consumers.”

The agency remains committed to collaborating with food producers, importers, retailers, and consumers to ensure all products meet safety standards. Public education and enforcement activities will continue to enhance consumer protection.

ZCSA, under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, is mandated by the Compulsory Standards Act to enforce standards for public safety, health, consumer, and environmental protection.
