Police Shoot Dead Four Armed Criminals in Foiled Robbery Attempt
Police intervened in a robbery attempt at the Interland PUMA filling station in Lusaka’s Libala area, resulting in the fatal shooting of four armed criminals on June 30th, 2024, at approximately 19:00 hours.
According to Danny Mwale, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, concerned members of the public alerted authorities about the impending robbery.
Officers from the Anti-Robbery Crack Squad Unit swiftly responded to the scene where they encountered a tinted, unregistered white Toyota Allion parked near the filling station.
Upon blocking the vehicle, four individuals emerged, one of them armed with an AK-47 assault rifle. The suspects attempted to flee in different directions, and amidst the chaos, the Toyota Allion sped away. Police officers opened fire, fatally wounding all four suspects.
The injured suspects were immediately transported to the University Teaching Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition at the scene. The bodies of the deceased have been placed in the hospital mortuary pending formal identification.
A comprehensive manhunt has been initiated to apprehend any remaining suspects linked to the incident and locate the absconded Toyota Allion, as confirmed by Mwale.
