World Bank Group Unveils Ambitious Gender Equality Strategy
The World Bank Group has launched its new Gender Strategy for 2024-2030, aimed at tackling global gender inequalities exacerbated by crises, conflicts, and climate change.
The strategy was announced by key leaders including Anna Bjerde, Makhtar Diop, Anshula Kant, Hiroshi Matano, Axel van Trotsenburg, and Wencai Zhang.
The strategy underscores the urgent need for gender equality, noting that it will take an estimated 134 years for women and men to achieve parity in income and legal rights.
The World Bank Group has committed to three strategic objectives: building foundational well-being, expanding economic opportunities, and engaging women as leaders.
Key initiatives include combating gender-based violence, improving access to quality education and health services, and creating economic opportunities for women.
The strategy also emphasises the importance of women’s leadership in addressing global challenges and promoting gender equality.
Leveraging the combined strengths of the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, the strategy focuses on innovation, financing, and collective action.
The World Bank Group aims to replicate successful solutions at scale and ensure measurable progress through its new scorecard.
“We can no longer afford to marginalise the talents of half of humanity,” the statement concludes, inviting global partners to join in accelerating gender equality to end poverty and build a livable planet.
