Zambia Mourns with Malawi Over Tragic Plane Crash
Former Zambian President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic passing of Malawi’s Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, and nine others in a plane crash yesterday.
The plane was travelling from the capital Lilongwe to Mzuzu on official duty when the accident occurred.
In his heartfelt message, Dr. Lungu described the late Vice President Chilima as a true son of Africa, dedicated to hard work and excellence. At only 51 years old, Vice President Chilima was recognised as a national treasure, having served Malawi with distinction during his ten-year tenure.
“Vice President Chilima was a performer, a workaholic, and most of all, a truly outstanding patriot,” Dr. Lungu stated, emphasising the immense loss to Malawi and the continent.
On behalf of his family, the Patriotic Front Party, and the people of Zambia, Dr. Lungu extended condolences to Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, Mrs. Mary Chilima, and the families of all the victims.
He assured the people of Malawi of Zambia’s solidarity during this difficult time.
Citing Isaiah 41:10, Dr. Lungu offered prayers for peace, unity, and strength for Malawi as they mourn their fallen heroes. “May their souls rest in eternal peace,” he concluded.
