Lusaka Business Indaba and Expo Promotes E-Commerce Innovation
The 3rd edition of the Lusaka Business Indaba and Expo, held on May 16th and 17th, 2024, focused on harnessing technology and innovation to embrace e-commerce in Zambia.
The theme for this year’s event was “Synergy in Diversity: Embracing E-Commerce Through Innovation and Technology.”
Her Honour, Mrs. W.K Mutale Nalumango, Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, served as the Guest of Honour and delivered the opening remarks.
She emphasized the importance of leveraging Zambia’s strategic location within regional economic communities like SADC, COMESA, and EAC.
Vice President Nalumango emphasized that Zambia’s central location provides a strategic advantage for the growth of e-commerce.
She highlighted that leveraging technology and innovation is essential to transform this geographic benefit into significant national economic gains.
Furthermore, she stressed that e-commerce should be utilized to establish direct market linkages within regional economic communities, enhancing trade and economic integration.
The Zambian government’s commitment to supporting the Lusaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and e-commerce development was evident by the Vice President’s presence at the expo.
Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, reiterated this support during the event.
Minister Mulenga assured small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local producers that the government is dedicated to providing them with the necessary support for their value-added activities.
In conclusion, the Lusaka Business Indaba and Expo aimed to promote the adoption of e-commerce solutions among Zambian businesses, highlighting the importance of leveraging technology and innovation to enhance connectivity with regional markets.
The event also focused on supporting the growth of SMEs and local producers engaged in value addition, emphasizing the potential for economic development through improved market access and technological integration.
