Vedanta Donates Sanitary Towels to Support Girls’ Education on the Copperbelt
Vedanta Resources Limited has donated 14,000 sanitary towels to schools and NGOs in Kitwe, Chingola, and Ndola, Zambia, to support girls’ education.
This initiative is part of their “End-period poverty campaign” aimed at addressing menstrual hygiene challenges that often hinder girls’ school attendance.
The donation ceremony took place at Rokana Combined School, where Vedanta’s Director of Corporate Communication, Mr. Masuzyo Ndhlovu, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering girls through education.
He stated that over 40,000 sanitary towels have been donated so far through this campaign.
Vedanta has partnered with NGOs to distribute sanitary towels in Chingola and Ndola, in addition to donations already made in Chililabombwe and Shibuyunji Secondary School. They believe this will create an environment where girls can get an education and thrive.
Mr. Ndhlovu reiterated Vedanta’s commitment to social development through investments in education, sports, health, and other areas.
He also mentioned Vedanta’s upcoming transition process to take full control of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).
The Kitwe District Education Board Secretary representative, Ms. Zyambo Noreen, applauded Vedanta’s initiative, highlighting the importance of prioritizing girls’ education.
