KCM Invests US$150,000 in 2026 Golf Challenge
Konkola Copper Mines Plc (KCM) has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and sports advancement with a US$150,000 investment in the 2026 KCM Golf Challenge, officially launched at Nchanga Golf Club in Chingola.
The annual tournament continues to serve as a key platform for promoting sporting excellence, fostering partnerships, and strengthening community engagement, while also highlighting KCM’s broader social investment agenda.
Speaking at the launch, KCM Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Malcolm Mewett, emphasised that the company’s role extends beyond mining operations to include meaningful contributions to social and economic development.
His remarks were delivered by KCM Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mr Brian Siatubi, who noted that the Golf Challenge represents more than just a sporting competition.
“The KCM Golf Challenge is more than a sporting event; it is a platform for connection, collaboration and excellence. It fosters a shared sense of identity, promotes discipline and healthy lifestyles, and builds bridges across different sectors of society,” Mr Mewett said.
The company has committed US$150,000 (approximately K2.8 million) towards this year’s edition, highlighting its continued support for sport, talent development and community upliftment.
The immediate past President of the Zambia Golf Union, Mr Greg Lubesha, welcomed KCM’s continued sponsorship, describing it as vital to the growth of golf in Zambia.
He encouraged players to uphold high standards of sportsmanship throughout the tournament and commended the organising committee, led by Mr Manuel Mutale, for their preparations.
The launch event attracted golfers, corporate partners and key stakeholders, signalling the start of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2026 edition. Organisers say the tournament will build on last year’s success, which recorded increased participation and strong performances across the field.
KCM has continued to collaborate with the Zambia Golf Union and the Sunshine Tour of South Africa to raise the profile and competitiveness of the event, positioning it as a key fixture on Zambia’s sporting calendar.
With renewed investment and strengthened partnerships, KCM says the 2026 Golf Challenge will not only showcase top golfing talent but also contribute to the growth and development of sport in the country.
