Ambassador Mary Chirwa Endorses Malabo Declaration to Strengthen OACPS
Zambia’s Head of Delegation to the 11th Summit of the Organisation of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Heads of State and Government, Her Excellency Ambassador Mary Chirwa, has expressed strong support for the Malabo Declaration, calling it a decisive step towards a technologically empowered, financially resilient, and globally influential OACPS.
Speaking at the Council of Ministers Meeting and Strategic Partnership Session ahead of the Summit, Ambassador Chirwa highlighted the need for the Organisation to draw lessons from past experiences and ensure prudent, disciplined, and accountable administration.
She stressed that such measures are essential for rebuilding trust among Member States and partners, which is crucial to the credibility and effectiveness of the OACPS.
Describing the Summit theme, “A Transformed and Renewed OACPS in a Changing World”, as timely and necessary, Ambassador Chirwa urged Member States to reflect, recalibrate, and reposition the Organisation in an increasingly competitive global environment.
She emphasised the importance of institutional reforms, transparency, performance, and financial sustainability, including adherence to assessed contributions and innovative financing approaches.
The Malabo Declaration, adopted under the Revised Georgetown Agreement of 2019, reaffirms OACPS commitments to multilateral cooperation, sustainable development, and unity among Member States, while charting a renewed vision for institutional effectiveness and coherent strategic action.
