Zambia Showcases Leadership at Africa Political Outlook 2026 in Brussels
The Republic of Zambia participated as a key speaker at the 4th Edition of the Africa Political Outlook (APO) held in Brussels, Belgium, from 26 to 27 March 2026. The invitation reflects the progressive policies implemented by President Hakainde Hichilema, which have strengthened Zambia’s profile on the international stage.
Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, S.C., M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation represented Zambia as Guest of Honour at the summit.
The APO convened Africa’s leading policymakers, investors, and strategic partners to discuss the continent’s repositioning in a multipolar global order. The 2026 theme, Forces of the Future, highlighted Africa’s shift from aid dependency towards industrial transformation, financial autonomy, sovereign alignment, and enhanced geopolitical agency.
On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Haimbe met with Wopke Hoestra of the European Commission to discuss mutual interests, including Zambia’s commitment to the global green economy.
The European Commissioner praised Zambia for its environmental protection efforts, responsible critical mineral value chains, and engagement with the Global Battery Alliance, recognising the country’s efforts to ensure that the benefits of natural resources accrue to local communities.
In response, Minister Haimbe reiterated Zambia’s dedication to equitable and mutually beneficial partnerships in the critical minerals sector. He emphasised the country’s adherence to environmental, social, and governance principles, fair business practices, and sustainable development.
He also highlighted concerns over potential monopolisation of critical minerals and stressed the importance of fair competition and adherence to international standards to ensure inclusive benefits from the global green transition.
Zambia’s participation at APO 2026 underscores the country’s growing influence in international policymaking, particularly in areas of sustainable development, climate action, and responsible mineral management.
