Customers Can Now Pay with MTN MoMo on All IZB POS Terminals

MTN Mobile Money Zambia (MoMo) and Indo Zambia Bank have launched a strategic partnership that allows MTN MoMo customers to pay for goods and services on all IZB Point of Sale (POS) terminals nationwide.

The collaboration marks a major step in Zambia’s digital transformation, enhancing interoperability, customer convenience, and the shift towards a cashless economy.

Through the integration, customers can authorise payments directly on their mobile phones and receive instant confirmations, while merchants benefit from real‑time transaction validation on IZB POS terminals. The move ensures faster, safer, and more secure transactions, providing a superior checkout experience for all users.

The partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between the two institutions. IZB currently supports MTN MoMo with liquidity and float management for agents across the country, and customers can already move funds seamlessly between IZB accounts and MoMo wallets via the National Financial Switch (NFS).

With 40 branches across Zambia’s ten provinces, more than 1,800 POS terminals, and over four decades of continuous service, IZB continues to strengthen the country’s digital financial infrastructure.

Speaking at the launch, Komba Malukutila, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Mobile Money, emphasised the company’s commitment to financial inclusion and digital innovation.

“MTN MoMo continues to evolve beyond traditional mobile money. Enabling MoMo payments on IZB POS terminals is another bold step towards a fully interoperable and cashless ecosystem,” he said.

Mr Malukutila also highlighted recent innovations, including the enhanced MoMo App, MoMo Virtual Card, international transfers to Europe and Canada, Village Banking, and a growing Insurance and Loans Marketplace.

Echoing the commitment to a more integrated payments ecosystem, Brajesh Kumar Singh, Managing Director of IZB, said the integration reinforces the bank’s mission to promote secure, convenient, and accessible electronic payments across Zambia.

“Customers can now pay effortlessly using their MTN MoMo wallets on any IZB POS terminal, reducing dependency on cash and delivering faster, safer checkout experiences,” Mr Singh said.

He also noted that IZB has strengthened its digital infrastructure through upgrades to the Core Banking System, the IZB NXT Digital Banking suite, Agency Banking, ERP integrations, QR payment capabilities, and the fully operational Indo Wallet, improving convenience for customers and merchants alike.

Mr Singh further reaffirmed IZB’s commitment to financial inclusion through ongoing support for key government programmes, including the Social Cash Transfer, Cash for Work, FISP, and Sustainable Agricultural Financing (SAF), highlighting the bank’s role in promoting inclusive economic growth.

The partnership supports Zambia’s national priorities by enhancing financial inclusion, accelerating digital commerce, and establishing secure and interoperable payment infrastructure, positioning the country for a modern, cashless economy.
