Huawei Leads Power System Transformation with Meralco and SANXING Ningbo

During MWC2026, Huawei hosted a forum under the theme “Advancing All Intelligence, Empowering the Future Power System”. Together with Meralco of the Philippines and SANXING Ningbo, Huawei unveiled the Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS) and announced a joint lighthouse initiative aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of power systems worldwide.

David Sun, CEO of Huawei’s Electric Power Digitalisation BU, highlighted four key drivers for the energy transition: green energy and diversity, resilient grids, transparent distribution, and load electrification.

He stressed the importance of policy reforms for dispatch-market coordination and noted that communication, digitalisation and artificial intelligence are becoming core production systems, requiring strong digital transformation, cybersecurity, and sustainable development capabilities.

At the forum, Mr Sun introduced the White Paper on Communication Target Networks for the Future Power System, which presents an intelligent and robust network architecture. The architecture integrates medium- and low-voltage networks, ensures high-speed secure connectivity, and incorporates space-ground integration.

The paper also identifies technological trends in optical, wireless, carrier, and satellite communications, underlining their transformative value.

Global industry leaders shared insights on advancing power systems. Al’Louise van Deventer (Eskom) discussed future-ready digital practices, Momar Awa Sall (Senelec) highlighted private wireless networks, Deniz Coskun (TEİAŞ) focused on communication network restructuring for grid resilience, and Andy Liu (SANXING Ningbo) showcased applications of Huawei IDS.

The IDS delivers four core capabilities: reliable communication, edge computing, cloud-edge collaboration, and low-voltage transparency. Built on a cloud-pipe-edge-device architecture, it enables an intelligent 400 V low-voltage distribution network with controllable line loss, visualised distribution rooms, and manageable renewables.

The lighthouse initiative will offer replicable and scalable best practices for digital transformation.

Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to integrating advanced intelligence into power production. Working with global partners, the company aims to enhance grid reliability, security, and sustainability, supporting the transition to low-carbon, intelligent power systems.
