KCM Empowers Women Through Mining Mentorship Training

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has held a Women in Mining Mentee Alignment Training, reaffirming the company’s commitment to employee development, mentorship and inclusive leadership.

The training, held at Changa Golf Club, brought together women participating in the mentorship programme and focused on empowering mentees to take an active role in shaping their professional growth.

Speaking at the event, KCM Vice-President for Human Capital Management Prudence Chisakuta emphasised the importance of mentorship in career advancement. She said mentorship begins with a personal decision to actively engage and invest in one’s development.

“Mentorship begins with the decision to show up, engage and invest in oneself,” Ms Chisakuta said. “At KCM, we believe that mentorship is a catalyst for unlocking potential and driving business success.”

She further highlighted the need for openness, curiosity and accountability to ensure successful mentorship partnerships.

The session was facilitated by Zelelapi Kaemba of the Talent Capital Institute, who covered key areas including effective mentoring sessions, professional conduct and meaningful conversations.

Mr Kaemba noted that successful mentorship largely depends on the mentee’s commitment, stressing the importance of curiosity, proactivity and openness to feedback.

The training aims to align expectations between mentors and mentees, promote mutual understanding and position mentees as active partners in the mentorship process.
