Gov’t Backs MSME Growth Through Technology
Government has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing technology as a key driver of national development, with a strong focus on empowering Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to compete and grow in an increasingly digital global economy.
Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Hon. Eng. Elias Mubanga MP, made the remarks during a courtesy call by a delegation from Probase, a leading technology solutions company, at his ministry offices in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Mr Mubanga said Government would continue to champion the integration of technology across all business sectors, noting that digital adoption is essential for improving productivity, competitiveness and innovation, particularly among MSMEs.
“The world is rapidly adapting to technological change, and our businesses cannot afford to be left behind,” the Minister said. “My ministry is committed to creating an enabling environment where technology adoption is not a luxury, but a standard tool for growth. I strongly encourage MSMEs to embrace digital solutions, from streamlining internal processes to accessing new markets.”
He added that placing MSMEs at the centre of Zambia’s digital transformation agenda is critical if the country is to achieve inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development. The Minister noted that technology and innovation remain central pillars of Government’s broader development strategy.
In response, Probase Chief Financial Officer Mr Emmanuel Simenda said the company’s initiatives are closely aligned with Government’s vision to drive technological advancement within the MSME sector. He explained that Probase is developing solutions specifically designed to meet the needs of small businesses.
“We are committed to working with Government and the MSME community to deliver accessible, scalable and impactful technology,” Mr Simenda said. “Our goal is to equip businesses with the tools they need to grow, innovate and contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s development journey.”
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to explore collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting digital literacy, improving access to affordable technology and building a more resilient, future-ready MSME sector in Zambia.
