Emirates and Marriott to Open World’s First Ritz-Carlton Lodge in Australia

Emirates and Marriott International have announced plans to open the world’s first Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Wolgan Valley in Australia’s Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, marking a major milestone for global luxury tourism and New South Wales’ regional travel offering.

The 40-key, all-inclusive luxury lodge, to be known as Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge, is scheduled to open in mid-2026 on a 7,000-acre conservation reserve in the Blue Mountains. The development represents the global debut of the Ritz-Carlton Lodge concept and the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

The lodge is designed as a purpose-built sanctuary in nature, combining refined luxury with environmental stewardship. Occupying less than two per cent of the protected wilderness, the property will offer guests an immersive experience that reflects the landscape while minimising environmental impact.

Emirates has invested AU$150 million in the Wolgan Valley property since 2006, restoring historic structures, including a homestead dating back to 1832, and implementing extensive conservation programmes such as the planting of more than one million native trees. The airline is now committing an additional AU$50 million towards renovations, in collaboration with Marriott International, to transform the property into a flagship Ritz-Carlton Lodge.

Despite the temporary closure of Wolgan Valley Road in 2023, Emirates has continued to maintain the site with locally employed staff, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region.

The project is expected to generate up to 150 jobs for the local community and create increased opportunities for local suppliers, supporting regional economic growth. Guests will access the lodge via four-wheel drive through the Donkey Steps or by helicopter, forming part of the destination’s off-road and wilderness experience.

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the project reflects the airline’s longstanding commitment to Australia and its communities.

“Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge will be an extraordinary resort for travellers seeking to connect with nature, while also acting as a catalyst for local economic development,” Sir Tim said.

Marriott International President for Asia Pacific (excluding China), Mr Rajeev Menon, said the collaboration brings together two global leaders in travel and hospitality.

“This landmark development marks the global debut of the Ritz-Carlton Lodge and will be a major draw for our 260 million Marriott Bonvoy members worldwide, particularly those seeking immersive, nature-led luxury experiences,” Mr Menon said.

Set within a UNESCO World Heritage-listed landscape, the lodge will offer exclusive access to pristine wilderness, rare native flora including the ancient Wollemi Pine, and diverse wildlife such as kangaroos, wombats and rock wallabies.

Planned facilities include 40 private lodges with pools, a signature restaurant, wine room, spa, equestrian facilities, wellness spaces and a dedicated naturalist hub to deliver conservation-led experiences. Guests will also be offered a unique guided sleep-out experience in remote wilderness locations under clear night skies.

The lodge will complement The Ritz-Carlton’s existing Australian portfolio, which includes properties in Perth and Melbourne, further strengthening the country’s position as a premium global tourism destination.
