Zambia Army Seeks Technology Partnerships for Modernisation

The Zambia Army is exploring collaborations with technologically advanced countries to accelerate its modernisation agenda, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza, Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, has said.

Speaking on 27 January 2026 at Army Headquarters in Lusaka, Maj Gen Sinyinza emphasised that partnerships in digital technology are crucial for providing officers and soldiers with insights into the capabilities of international defence firms.

He made the remarks during a visit by a delegation from the Czech Republic, led by the country’s Ambassador to Zambia, His Excellency Mr Jiří Kyrian.

The Deputy Army Commander highlighted the role of Czech firms such as DEFCON in supporting the modernisation, upgrading, and maintenance of operational systems within the Zambia Army.

“It is our sincere hope that this visit will culminate in tangible benefits, particularly in training exchange programmes, logistical support, and technical expertise critical for our modernisation agenda,” he said.

Ambassador Kyrian expressed the Czech Republic’s readiness to invest in Zambia’s defence industry. “We are open to partnering with the Zambia Defence Force, particularly the Zambia Army, to provide home-based solutions that enhance operational readiness, technology transfer, and training,” he said. The delegation included Dr Petr Markvart, proprietor of DEFCON.

In a related development, Dr Chola Milambo of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations commended the Zambia Battalion deployed under the Multi-Dimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

He praised the Zambia Army’s Female Engagement Team (FET) for making a significant impact among vulnerable populations in CAR, noting their professionalism and discipline.
