Zambia Shares Health Partnership Model with Lesotho Delegation

The Ministry of Health has hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lesotho on a learning visit aimed at exchanging experiences on strengthening health service delivery through effective partnerships.

During the visit, Zambia shared insights on its collaboration with faith-based health institutions, particularly through the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ). These facilities play a critical role in delivering essential health services, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas where government health facilities are limited.

The Lesotho delegation expressed interest in understanding how Zambia’s partnership model functions, including governance arrangements, funding mechanisms and accountability systems.

Zambian officials explained that faith-based health facilities are fully integrated into the national health system and operate in line with government policies and priorities, ensuring equitable access to health services for all citizens.

Zambia further outlined the support provided to faith-based facilities, which includes financial assistance, supply of medicines and medical equipment, and support for health workers. These measures help maintain affordable, reliable and quality healthcare services across communities.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of strong coordination, regular dialogue and joint planning between government and partners. Through such collaboration, Zambia has recorded improvements in key health areas, including maternal and child health, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and community health services.

The Ministry of Health emphasised that successful partnerships are built on trust, clear communication and a shared commitment to public service. While acknowledging that country contexts differ, Zambia noted that the principles of cooperation, integration and accountability can be adapted to strengthen health systems across the region.

The Ministry welcomed the Lesotho delegation and expressed confidence that the exchange of knowledge and experiences would contribute to stronger health sector partnerships in Lesotho, ultimately improving health outcomes for communities.
