Zambia Calls for Stronger Global Peacekeeping at UN Meeting
Zambia has reaffirmed its strong commitment to global peace and security during the 2026 United Nations Contingent-Owned Equipment (COE) Working Group meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Deputy Zambia Army Commander, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza, delivered Zambia’s national statement at the official opening of the meeting, emphasising the country’s continued dedication to peacekeeping and multilateral cooperation.
Major General Sinyinza called on the COE Working Group, United Nations funders and cooperating partners to critically review the evolving dynamics of the global peacekeeping environment.
He urged that the 2026 COE deliberations should result in practical and measurable outcomes that support the Action for Peacekeeping Plus (A4P+) agenda, aimed at improving the safety, effectiveness and impact of peacekeeping operations worldwide.
He noted that the 2026 COE Working Group is particularly important as it will help shape the financial and operational frameworks that underpin effective peacekeeping missions.
Discussions on equipment standards and reimbursement rates, he said, are essential to enable troop-contributing countries such as Zambia to deploy safely and effectively while meeting increasingly complex mandates.
Zambia’s participation in the meeting aligns with its foreign policy, which places peacekeeping and multilateralism at the centre of efforts to promote global peace and stability.
Major General Sinyinza was accompanied by senior officials from the Zambia Army and the Ministry of Defence.
