FRA Says Funds for Unpaid Farmers Are Now with Banks

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has assured farmers who are yet to receive payment for maize supplied during the 2025 crop marketing season that all funds have already been disbursed to participating banks for completion of the payment process.

FRA Executive Director Mr Justin Chuunka said the Agency has released all the required funds to banks in districts where maize was delivered, and that complete farmer details, including amounts due to each supplier, have been submitted to facilitate payments.

Mr Chuunka explained that, in a move to speed up the process, the Agency has expanded its payment options beyond over-the-counter bank payments. Farmers are now being paid through mobile money platforms and direct bank transfers, in addition to traditional methods.

He encouraged farmers who wish to receive payments via mobile money to visit their nearest FRA offices to complete the necessary documentation. The Agency, he said, is promoting digital payment platforms as they allow for faster and more efficient processing of funds.

Mr Chuunka acknowledged the frustration experienced by farmers due to delays and emphasised that FRA understands the importance of timely payments to farmers’ operations and livelihoods.

“The Agency regrets the inconvenience this situation has caused and continues to work closely with banks to ensure that all outstanding payments are concluded as quickly as possible,” he said.

The FRA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all farmers who supplied maize during the 2025 season are paid in full and without further delay.
